After the fabric or garment is folded, it must be bound to hold the folds in place and create resists during the dye process. Dyers use a number of different materials to tie the fabric:

• Rubbers bands
• Cotton String or twine
• Artificial Sinew
• Thread (sewing the resists)
• Dental floss or tape
